Actuaries. Actuaries compile and analyze statistics to figure out how much insurance companies need to charge customers in order to make a profit. A bachelor degree in mathematics or statistics is required for an entry-level actuary position in an insurance company. Applicants must be skilled in several mathematics subjects, including calculus, probability, and statistics, and have passed the required actuarial exams.
Mathematicians. Mathematicians use their math knowledge and computational tools to create theories and techniques. mathematicians use theories and techniques to solve economic, scientific, engineering, and business problems. Mathematicians works with computers to develop models. They need a minimum of a bachelor degree, but many are required to have a master degree or even a doctoral degree.
Operations Research Analysts. Operations research analysts are problem solvers who work for large businesses. They help businesses operate more efficiently by applying math principles to problems. They use math models to explain how things happen within a business and to determine how to do things better most employers prefer to hire operations analysts who have a master degree in operations research, industrial engineering, or management science.
Statisticians. Statisticians collect, analyze, and present reports that interpret the results of surveys and experiments. They will create quality control tests for manufactured items to make sure that the item is built to work correctly. statisticians will also help business and government evaluate the success of a new program. For beginning jobs in statistics, a bachelor degree in mathematics or statistics is the minimum requirement.
Physical and Life Scientists. Physical and life scientists, such as biologists, physicists, chemists, oceanographers, and geologists, work to discover the basic principles of how the earth, universe, and living things operate. Research scientists who create a theory need a doctoral degree. Scientists in applied science need a master degree.
Social Scientists. Social scientists include anthropologists, archaeologists, economists, historians, political scientists, sociologists, and psychologists. Social scientists perform research that helps us understand how individuals and groups make decisions, exercise power, and respond to change. social scientists describe human behavior with math models. Social scientists need a bachelor or master degree.
Computer Scientists and Systems Analysts. Computer scientists design computer hardware systems and perform research to improve these systems. The ability to think logical is a qualification for working with computers. these workers have bachelor degrees in computer science, information systems, or computer engineering. A job in research requires a master or doctoral degree.
Engineers. Engineers use the theories and principles of math to help solve technical problems when building airplanes, highways and bridges, refrigerators, toys, and other items. Engineers major in an area of engineering such as:aerospace, agriculture, biomedical, chemical, civil, computer, electrical/electronics, environmental, industrial, mechanical, metallurgy, mining, nano, nuclear, petroleum, and transportation.
Engineer Technicians. Engineer technician jobs do not require a bachelor degree. Engineer technician jobs require a certificate or associate degree. While engineers design and draw plans for models on paper using theories and math, technicians are responsible for reading the plans and using their hands to build the prototype.
Other Careers That Use Math
Jobs in the financial and banking industry use math skills. Accountants need math to analyze numbers. Air traffic controllers need to understand maps and geometry when directing planes. Managers in business use math skills. Hotel managers must be bale to estimate cots and a budget for items the hotel needs, such as food and towels.
