438 Introduction to Media Production

The Introduction to Media Production class is a brand new course in the Technology and Engineering Education department, first offered in District 218 during the 2021-2022 school year. The course is one semester and open to freshman, sophomores, juniors and seniors who want to learn more about the world of digital media. The next level is Digital Media Production followed by another year-long class called Advanced Media Production

Our goals for the class are:
1. To discuss and evaluate the nature of media, its uses, and its effects on today's society
2. To become critically aware of the nature of television, including programming, ratings, advertising and TV production
3. To examine and produce media messages (essays, PSAs, commercials, news reports, newscasts) in order to understand the decision-making process of that goes into the production of messages for TV, film and social media

Students use professional quality equipment in the TV Studio—Sony prosumer cameras, wireless microphones, JVC high-definition cameras, Adobe premiere software and editing systems…all worth more than a quarter of a million dollars! As part of the Astroworld Media team, the students will produce projects for the studio's You Tube channel and for social media.
