445 Advanced Media Production

The Advanced Media Production class is a year-long elective in the Technology and Engineering Education department.  This class can be taken by juniors and seniors who have successfully completed the Digital Media prerequisite class.

Our goals for the class are:
1. To discuss and evaluate the nature of media, its uses & its effects on today's society
2. To produce the "Ike Update" newscast for broadcast on the Astroworld Media You Tube channel and on social media.
3. To learn news writing and reporting skills, including interviewing techniques, on-air performance, filming, editing, and using social media to communicate.
4. To demonstrate working knowledge of news equipment including high-definition field cameras, Adobe Creative Cloud editing and graphic design software, studio cameras, Tricaster switcher and mixer boards.
5. To explore career paths associated with the film and television industry.

Students use professional quality equipment in the TV Studio—Sony prosumer cameras, wireless microphones, JVC high-definition cameras, Adobe premiere software and editing systems…all worth more than a quarter of a million dollars! As part of the Astroworld Media team, the students will produce projects for the studio's social media and You Tube channel.

Students can also earn dual credit with South Suburban College by enrolling and successfully completing the Advanced Media Production class.
