A little bit of info about Teaching Internship:
 
Credits: 1 Semester Course/Double Period
Grades offered: 12
 
Prerequisite: Student must be at least 16 years of age and have senior standing. The student must submit a Teaching Internship Application with parent approval and prior approval by a Teaching Internship Coordinator.
 
Course Description: This course is designed to provide students with a “hands on” opportunity to explore a career in education. The course begins with several weeks of orientation. Topics include educational theories/philosophies and issues in education including discipline, instructional methodology, school law, confidentiality and characteristics of the school aged child. Students are placed with a cooperating teacher in a primary, intermediate, junior high or middle school for two hours a day, four days a week. One day a week the interns remain at their home school to reflect, discuss experiences, share insights, problem solve with one another and develop a portfolio.

*Teaching Internship is a CTE dual credit course. Students can earn 3 hours of college credits (EDUC 107 Exploring the Teaching Profession) with University of St. Francis with a grade of C or better. This course will provide students with an opportunity to earn industry recognized certifications.
