Instructional Coach/English Teacher

I attended the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign for my Undergraduate Degree.  I also have a Masters in Counseling (Type 73) from Concordia University and Masters in Administration (Type 75) from University of St. Francis.
I have taught English I, English I Honors, English 2, and a senior elective called Real World Writing.  I have two roles at ABS; I am both an English teacher and an Instructional Coach.

Grading Philosophy

While I do adhere to District 218's grading policy, I believe that by getting rid of grades, students can focus on what they know and can do and develop strategies to excel in skills they have not yet mastered.  Students focus on my feedback without being too focused on a letter or number grade.  I truly believe in the growth mindset and that dedication to continual improvement will yield positive results.  Students will take more responsibility for their own learning as they monitor their growth in reading, writing and critical thinking skills.  Like any other class, my English I Honors students have Common Unit Assessments, and any Common Unit Assessments (with the exception of a Final Exam) can be retaken by a student.
