Mission:
The National Honor Society (NHS) is the nation's premier organization established to recognize outstanding high school students. More than just an honor roll, NHS serves to recognize those students who have demonstrated excellence in the areas of scholarship, leadership, service, and character. These characteristics have been associated with membership in the organization since its beginning in 1921. Join millions of students around the world who think globally and act locally.
Sophomores and Juniors are eligible to apply for membership during the application process once a year. Information on applying will come out in February and application deadlines will be in March. Although you are encouraged to discuss being an NHS member with your parents/guardians and their permission is mandatory, we are looking for you to show some initiative, for you (not a parent/guardian) to reach out if you have any questions or concerns about the club and after reviewing the information provided on this page. Membership is an honor bestowed upon a student because he/she has demonstrated qualities of excellence in the areas of leadership, service, character, and scholarship.
Initial requirements for membership include: 3.6 weighted GPA (or higher), service in one's community (library, church, hospital, just to name a few) as well as a commitment to involvement at Shepard HS (participation in 4 activities and/or athletics). More details for Candidates - future members.
Accepted Candidates/Members should join Google Classroom using code: hrkocyh -
Members receive regular updates through our google classroom page and must participate in a timely manner to remain a member in good standing. Additionally, members must maintain the required GPA, sign the yearly membership agreement form, pay a yearly membership fee, and complete the minimum number of service hours. (first year members 40 hours, second year members 35 hours). While there is a required number of hours necessary, we encourage our members to become involved in as many leadership & service activities as possible.
We will be tracking all hours through InnerView.org. All NHS students should have an account and be registering for events and checking in with a photo (that includes their face) to earn credit.
