English Teacher & Department Chair

I am an English teacher, and I have been teaching for 18 years. I have taught English 1, English 1 Honors, English 2, and AP Literature, but almost every year I have taught English 1.  It is a privilege to be in this profession and have a positive impact on student learning!  My goal is to grow students' reading, writing and critical thinking skills, so they can read at grade level and find success in both their subsequent years of schooling here and their postsecondary goals.
Additionally, I am the ELA department chair here at Shepard High School. This allows me to collaborate with English teachers, so we can evaluate our impact on student learning and adjust as needed.  We are constantly monitoring student learning and adjusting our instructional strategies in order to create the highest academic gains possible.
We ask our students to adopt a growth mindset, engage in their learning, and invest in their future.  We cultivate an environment where students learn from mistakes; we expect students to put in the hard work that it takes to learn at the highest levels!
