Early Start

 Student Participation Survey:
Students:  Please click here and check the boxes for the clubs, sports or activities that you are interested in getting more information about or participating in this fall.  Remember, to receive credit for the Early Start Program you must participate in one club, sport, activity or volunteer opportunity in the fall of 2017.

First Session:
The first session of the Early Start Program will be held on June 12th - June 29th from 7:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.  Questions can be directed to Jim Weber or Jim Powers at (708) 371-1111 x3991 on/after June 12th.
Second Session:

The second session will be held on July 3rd, 5th, 6th, 7th, 10th-13th and 17th-20th from 7:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at Alan B. Shepard High School.  Contact is Tim Baker (708) 371-1111 x3991.  Questions prior to the second session can be directed to Mary Lyons at (708) 424-2000 x2510.


Bus Schedule On July 3rd, Early Start will begin at 8:30 a.m.  Please arrive at your bus stop one hour later than noted in the bus schedule below on July 3rd only.  Classes on the remaining days of the second session will begin at 7:30 a.m.
Benefits of Getting a Head Start:
  • Students need a head start to be prepared for complex life and work environments
  • Students who can think critically, be creative, communicate, and collaborate, achieve more success in schools and in the future
  • Students need to be able to use their higher-order thinking skills, have analytical discussions, and challenge themselves academically
  • Students feel more connected to their schools when they have opportunities to work with their peers
Program Focus:
  • Building student sub-skills within the four core content areas: English, Math, Science, and Social Studies, and an elective (STEAM)
  • Building students’ social-emotional skills: Executive function, civic duty/school pride, and perseverance
