National Honor Society
Mission:
The National Honor Society (NHS) is the nation's premier organization established to recognize outstanding high school students. More than just an honor roll, NHS serves to recognize those students who have demonstrated excellence in the areas of scholarship, leadership, service, and character. These characteristics have been associated with membership in the organization since its beginning in 1921. Join millions of students around the world who think globally and act locally. Juniors & Seniors are eligible to apply for membership during the application process once a year. Initial requirements for membership include a 3.6 GPA (or higher), service in one's community (library, church, hospital, just to name a few) as well as a commitment to involvement at Shepard HS (participation in 4 activities and/or athletics).
Members have joined Remind.com and receive regular updates regarding opportunities for service hours. Members must perform a required number of service hours (both inside & outside of school) to remain a member in good standing. While there is a required number of hours necessary, we encourage our members to become involved in as many leadership & service activities as possible Yearly membership requirements include 40 hours of community services, membership dues, participation in mandatory events (blood drives, pancake breakfast & adopt-a-highway).
We will be tracking all hours through InnerView.org. All NHS students should have an account and be registering for events and checking in with a photo to earn credit.

Important Dates:
Thurs Aug 31st - Mandatory first meeting for returning members & candidates at 7am in the FAC
Fri Sept 15th - Membership forms due for returning members and candidates. Deadline for dues for returning members
Mon October 16 2023 - NHS Induction at 6:30 pm in the Fine Arts Center for candidates
Nov 16th - Deadline for dues for new members.
Sat Dec 9th - NHS Pancake Breakfast with Santa
Sun Dec 10th - First 20 hours due for the year.
